Floyd D.Rocky Harris, KA2ZPQ, of Medina, passed away on Thursday evening, March 13, 2008 at the Medina Memorial Hospital.Mr. Harris was born in Idaho, March 30, 1922, a son of the late Frank and Minnie (Agee) Harris. He served in the US Navy during World War II and on November 4, 1944, he married Gloria D. Lindberg in Chicago. The couple moved to the Medina area in 1952 where he was employed by Rowley Coal, Grinnell-Feller, R.N. Parsons, and White Brothers Rose Corporation. He was a Ham Radio operator, known as “KA2ZPQ” and was active in the Orleans County Ham Radio Club. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company, a callman with Medina Fire Dept., a member of the Orleans County and Medina Auxillary Police and a life member of the NRA. He collected stamps and coins; enjoyed playing cards and solving jigsaw puzzles.Survivors include three daughters, Gail (Lynn) Canham of Medina, Carol Marshall of Fitchburg, MA and Kim (John) Myers of Medina; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Frank, Arnold and Gene Harris; a sister, Leola Goodwin of Salmon, ID; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife on Dec. 20, 2000.Friends may call on Monday (2-4, 6-8) at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where his service will be held at 8PM following visitation. The Reverend Emily J. Frank will officiate. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of Lincoln Post #1483 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion. Harry H. Incho
(Medina, NY) - Harry H. Incho, a research entomologist and a Ham radio operator, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 10, 2008. He was born on May 23, 1918, in San Diego, CA, the son of the late Jack C. and Hazel (Woodring) Incho.Harry graduated from the University of California at Berkley in 1941 with a Bachelors Degree in Zoology. In 1941 he was drafted into the Army, communications division, which reinforced an earlier and lifelong interest in Morse code. Harry was an avid Ham and had earned two National County Hunters Certificates for using Morse code to contact Hams in all the counties of the United States.Harry was assigned to the Department of Agriculture Research Laboratory in Orlando, FL in 1942. Here, he worked the duration of WWII and met his future wife, Eileen Justice. They tested DDT, DDT Analogs and other candidate insecticides against many insects (primarily mosquitoes). These insecticides aided our war efforts by relieving our troops of these insect pests. Harry was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the Army Air Force.Harry married Eileen, February 15, 1946, and they both went to work for US Industrial Chemicals in Baltimore, MD. In 1958 Harry transferred to the FMC Company Research Labs in Middleport, NY, where he worked as the head of the Household Insecticide Research Laboratory. He left FMC after 30 years, but continued his research work with Fairfield American until his retirement in 1983. Harry was also active for many years in A.F.S. and the Orleans County Amateur Radio Club. He was an avid cook, always experimenting with new recipes. He and Eileen enjoyed traveling the country to visit friends and family, made several international trips and participated in ballroom dancing. Harry is survived by his loving son, Jonathan (Cynthia) Incho of Medina and their son, his only grandchild, Andrew, of whom he was very proud. Also his beloved sister, Jackie Lea Glenn of Eureka, CA; his brother-in-law, Norman (Marian) Justice of Covington, TX; sister-in-law, Louise (late Philip) Justice of Cedar Rapids, IA and many faithful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Eileen, 12 years ago.He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medina for almost 40 years and had served as an elder. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Medina Journal Register Camp Fund.
